History of ArcheoClub
Massa Lubrense
ArcheoClub has a long and rich history. Founded in 1971 by scholars, scientists, and archeologists, ArcheoClub's vision and goal was to bring the citizens of the local areas into the organization and include them in the work of preserving their town's findings. In the 70s ArcheoClub was met with resistance from the state because the practice of archeology was reserved purely for educated archeologists. It wasn't until 1980s when the goal was accomplished and citizens were able to visit sites and help in the preservation of facts. ArcheoClub during this time also extended their scope to include cultural and environmental findings.

While ArcheoClub is a national organization there are around 400 local associations, one of which is one lcoated in Massa Lubrense. This chapter was founded in 1976 by priest, Don Peppino Esposito. His passion for archeology came out of his love for his home town and the rich history it held. For over 30 years he directed Massa Lubrense' ArcheoClub until his death when current president, Stefano took up the torch.
The orginal site of the ArcheoClub in Massa was located where the priests currently live in the ex-cathedral. Currently ArcheoClub Massa Lubrense resides in a converted church not far away. Learn how to visit HERE!
